2 held after police fire shots at vehicles

ARMED police fired shots at two vehicles at a supermarket. Officers from the Met’s central task force swooped on two suspects at Sainsbury’s, in Southend Lane, Sydenham, at about 1.45pm on Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman said one officer had suffered an ankle injury during the operation which is still ongoing.

The marksmen fired so-called Hatton Rounds at the vehicles, designed to deflate the tyres.

Two men in their 20s were arrested and are in custody at a south London police station.
