SEVERAL men using a 4x4 Mitsubishi Shogun attempted to smash their way into Lo-Cost Stores at Staplehurst, near Maidstone, early today. Members of the gang repeatedly drove the car into the front of the shop while the rest waited in a nearby getaway car.

When their attempts failed the raiders, all wearing dark clothing, drove off in the second car. The Shogun was left at the scene and police are carrying out tests on the vehicle. The raiders were seen in the car park of the store in The Parade by at least one member of the public.
