Give and take and never going to bed on an argument – that’s the secret to 50 years of marriage according to a couple who have just celebrated their milestone anniversary.
Pat and Joe Robbins from Minster married in London in 1959 and renewed their wedding vows to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, March 28.
Mr and Mrs Robbins had a ceremony at Minster Abbey, followed by a family get together at the working men’s club.
The couple had two children, Gary and Stephen, but Stephen passed away in 2007, and two grandchildren.
Mrs Robbins said she had holidayed at a chalet in Leysdown for 40 years, and the couple had always dreamt of spending their retirement here, and they moved to the Island eight years ago.
Mrs Robbins added: “Our service at the abbey was lovely, simple but very nice and everybody enjoyed themselves.
“We had a beautiful day.
“The secret to a long marriage is give and take. We are not perfect, we all have our ups and downs, but half the fun is making up.”
