AS OPENING statements go, the new Dodge Caliber is a pretty bold move.
This distinctive family motor, just unveiled to dealers, has plenty of promise.
The US marque will stand alongside its sister brands Chrysler and Jeep and hopes are high that it will take a respectable share of the market.
Prices have yet to be released for the car, which gains its UK release in July and will feature a 1.8 litre petrol engine or available as a 2.0 litre diesel. At its Maidstone Hilton launch, Chrysler marketing director Steve Gray welcomed its release. He said: "Dodge has more than 90 years heritage as a company and it has been a challenge to bring it over here. People in Britain think of Dodge as a truck company, but we think we have something for everyone with this hatchback.
It’s the kind of car that someone with personality would drive as it is a little bit different. Dodge is all about quality of build, power and also being affordable."
Engines for the car have been built in partnership with Mitsubishi and Volkswagen, a trend which is increasingly common within the industry in which different motoring groups are teaming up for efficient production.
The Caliber comes with striking 17in alloy wheels and an advanced sound system for the sports version. Those looking for a family car a little out of the ordinary will certainly want to investigate it at close quarters.
