Kent will be the brightest county in the UK when more beacons are lit to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee than any other region.

The markers on this map show where the county will be lit up with fires at scores of venues.

Event organisers have received more than 180 applications for beacons from organisations such as town councils, parish councils and churches in Kent.

The deadline was April 30 and there have been more than 120 successful submissions so far.

The beacons will be lit at around 10.15pm on Monday, June 4, with the Queen lighting the last beacon in The Mall, London, at 10.30pm.

As part of the four-day celebrations for the Queen's 60-year reign, a chain of more than 4,000 beacons will be lit.

It is almost double the original target of 2,012 beacons to mark the year and a record figure - there were only 1,800 beacons for Her Majesty's Golden Jubilee.

Pageantmaster Bruno Peek MBE, who has helped coordinate beacon lighting events for royal events for more than 30 years, said Kent was leading the way.

He said: "I'm absolutely delighted that so many beacons are being lit in this most important moment in the Queen's reign, but in her life too.

"This shows the warmth and respect this nation has for our Queen."
