Tooting their vintage horns and trundling over the county’s roads, more than 500 vehicles are expected to make their way to the Heritage Transport Show.
Cars, tractors and motorcycles will be joined by buses from the Maidstone & District and East Kent Bus Company Club, which is celebrating its diamond jubilee.
They will be contributing more than 100 vehicles to the total at the Kent Showground, Detling, and visitors will be able to take free vintage bus rides to stops positioned round site.
Buses on show were built from 1912 to 1989. For the well versed in model history, the display will include the likes of the Leyland Titan in Kent Freedom Pass livery; 1945 Bristol K6A Weymann; 1963 AEC Reliance Harrington Grenadier single-deck coach; 1969 Daimler Fleetline Park Royal; 1972 Leyland Leopard Marshall; and 1984 MCW Metrobus 2.
Maidstone & District and East Kent will have three guest speakers during the day, including founder Don Vincent talking about how he and four young friends came to set up the club in 1952.
There will also be displays celebrating the 50th anniversary of the MGB Roadster and the Massey Ferguson 35X as well as celebrating 100 years of AEC buses.
The show also features stands and competitions. Heritage Committee chairman and organiser Bernard Pike said: “The showground will be full of some of the finest examples of classic and vintage vehicles in the country and we are expecting large numbers of visitors.
“We have a huge number of people to thank for all their hard work this year and I am confident that this will be our best event yet.”
The show takes place at the Kent Showground, Detling, on Saturday, March 31, from 10am to 4pm. Tickets £7.50, children free. Call 01622 630975.
