Abigail: Kent man may hold vital clue

A MAN from Kent has come forward saying he may have seen the attacker of Abigail Witchalls who was stabbed in the neck in a Surrey village last month.

A reconstruction was screened during Wednesday night's BBC Crimewatch programme which prompted 58 calls, one of them from a man from Hythe, near Folkestone.

He said was in the area at the time od the attack and might have some information.

Mrs Witchalls was stabbed as she walked with her 21-month-old son Joseph near their home on April 20.

She is slowly recovering in hospital. On Wednesday, it was reported sensation is returning to her body.

Det Supt Adrian Harper, who is leading the investigation, said: "We have had one important call from Hythe in Kent, a guy who thinks he may have been in the area at the right time."

Although neighbours heard screams at the time of the attack no-one, apart from Mrs Witchalls herself and her is known to have seen the attacker.

Crimewatch presenter Nick Ross said there had also been a "flurry" of calls from people in the area who were able to provide details about what had happened in the lane where Mrs Witchalls was attacked on the day.

So far Surrey Police have received more than 700 calls about the case and said they were following up a number of lines of inquiry.

One suspect, 23-year-old Richard Cazaly, who lived near the attack scene, died on April 30 from an apparent overdose. His body was discovered in a car in Scotland.
