Accidents and breakdowns have combined with existing roadworks to compound problems on the county's roads this morning.

A broken down van on the M25 has led to traffic queuing clockwise at Junction 3 near Swanley, with congestion back to Junction 2 at the Darenth Interchange.

There are also further delays on the A229 near Walderslade, the A249 southbound near Danaway, and the A2 near Rainham and Gravesend.

The ongoing slip road closures due to road improvements at Junction 5 on the M2 are thought to be contributing to the problems, with diverted traffic leading to congestion on the A229 at the Lord Lees Roundabout, and delays in both directions on the A2 near Rainham.

With the A2 under increasing pressure as people try to get from Medway to Sittingbourne and Sheppey without using the M2, problems have been made worse in Rainham by the closure of Lower Rainham Road for emergency water main repairs.

There are also further reports of slow moving traffic on the A2 Londonbound near Gravesend between M2 Junction 1 near Cobham and B255 Bean Lane.

In Ashford multiple roadworks have created ongoing issues for drivers, while there were further delays caused by an accident this morning involving three vehicles on the B2229 Brookfield Road in both directions near Knoll Lane.
