Adam Barrett is pleased to play a part in the development of Gillingham’s latest young talent, Callum Davies.
Gills skipper Barrett (pictured) played alongside the 19-year-old in central defence on Tuesday night as the pair held off a determined challenge from Cheltenham.
Barrett, who turns 33 later this month, said: "Callum has done well, especially one fantastic covering tackle in the first half and I am delighted for the lad.
"He is going to learn from the experience in what was a big game here, with more pressure but he acquitted himself well.
"We have good players throughout the squad but I am pleased for him and that will do his confidence the world of good.
"Every time he has been called upon he has done well.
"He has got to learn his trade and he will get better with age. Hopefully I can help him along the way.
"He is someone who listens, his attitude is good and he works hard. I don’t want to put any pressure on the lad but he has a bright future and he will have a long career."
