Adam Gemili says he is looking forward to ‘mixing it’ with the county’s top sprinters at the British Olympic trials this weekend.
The 18-year-old sensation - who shot to fame with a record-breaking 100m performance of 10.08s in Germany just three weeks ago - will seek to earn selection to TeamGB at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.
The former Dartford Grammar School pupil - who only began to focus on sprinting full-time at the turn of the year after taking a break from a promising football career - produced another superb performance at the World Junior Championship trials at Bedford last weekend.
After being given special dispensation by UK Athletics to skip the 100m to lighten his workload ahead of the Olympic trials, Gemili turned out in the 200m and smashed another record in the heat, before skipping the final with a tight hamstring.
His time of 20.61s on Sunday came despite a stiff headwind and him easing up in the final straight, meaning Gemili knows there’s more to come.
He said: "I feel good this week, I didn’t race too much so my body isn’t too achey. I just got a slight tightness on the weekend so pulled out of the 200m final.
"I didn’t want to risk an injury this far on in the season with so many important championships coming up."
He added: "I was pleased with how the weekend went and that I did get a good run out. UK Athletics have been good, giving me the exemption from the Junior trials.
"The heat for the 200m was very good and didn’t feel full pace. I felt I could go a lot quicker and the wind was a -1.1 so I know there is still improvements to be made there."
