Charlton's Championship match with Cardiff, which was scheduled for Saturday, has been called off because of the recent cold weather.
Referee Andy D’Urso inspected the pitch at The Valley just before noon on Friday and found a lot of water on the surface which was expected to freeze overnight.
The Football League ruled that it would be unfit to play and postponed the match.
Mr D’Urso said: "The Football League called the game off based on the information given by me. I told them there is currently a covering of snow on three-quarters of the pitch. Where the snow has thawed there are puddles of water.
"With the temperatures overnight and the amount of water, the pitch was likely to freeze."
The fixture will now be rescheduled for later in the season.
