Charlton lost 2-1 at Bournemouth on the opening day of the Championship season and finished with 10 men when Bradley Pritchard was dismissed late on.
The Addicks made a lively start at the newly-promoted Cherries on Saturday but fell behind on 26 minutes when Marc Pugh played a corner to Harry Arter, whose cross was headed in by Lewis Grabban.
Callum Harriott dragged a shot wide before Charlton levelled with a spectacular Yann Kermorgant strike four minutes into the second half.
Harriott's cross was deflected into the path of the French striker, who gave Ryan Allsop no chance with a brilliant scissor kick.
Bournemouth grabbed their winner on 66 minutes with Grabban's drive beating Addicks keeper Ben Hamer.
Pritchard had a header cleared off the line by Elliott Ward but was sent off for a lunge on Ryan Fraser with seven minutes left.
Addicks boss Chris Powell said: "I haven't seen it again but from the first reaction it looked a dangerous tackle, so there are no complaints from me."
