AN AIR and land search, including a helicopter and sniffer dogs, was launched after a 12-year-old boy went missing for five hours.

The youngster had been playing with his family in Shorne Wood Country Park, near Rochester, when he suddenly disappeared.

What followed was described by his frantic mum as "the most terrifying experience" of her life as police and search volunteers combed the park for the missing child.

She said: "Inevitably the worst case scenario did creep into my mind."

In the end a group of teenagers who had been at the park found the boy.
