A NEW Battle of Britain memorial is to be placed at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone.
The Stone Shop in East Farleigh, near Maidstone, will design and build the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall.
The memorial consists of 15 two-metre high panels containing the names of almost 3,000 RAF personnel who took part in the Battle of Britain between July and October 1940.
Stone Shop owner and designer Gordon Newton, said: "The memorial wall has been designed using granite as the major component. In its exposed location overlooking the English Channel this will ensure that the names of the aircrew will resist the weather for hundreds of years."
A central panel will also depict all the aircraft which battled the Luftwaffe.
The memorial is scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, July 3, by Prince Michael of Kent to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
