Winger Albert Jarrett may have forced his way into the squad for Thursday’s play-off semi-final, first leg at Rochdale after impressing on Saturday.
Jarrett (pictured right) was not only playing for a place in the end-of-season finale but also a new contract and manager Mark Stimson liked what he saw.
"He was outstanding and he terrorised their right-back," he said.
It was Jarrett’s first appearance for Gillingham since December.
Stimson said: "We haven’t seen Albert for a long while but I asked the players to give him the ball as much as they could.
"When he got the ball he caused them problems all afternoon.
"If I was a right-back at Rochdale, I would be having nightmares between now and Thursday and wishing he doesn’t play."
Jarrett, 24, is likely to still have to settle for a place on the bench at best, as Andy Barcham waits in the wings but Stimson was glad to have been given something to think about.
"We had someone on the bench on Saturday who has been as good as that all season in Andy Barcham," he said.
"Whoever I pick to play, one will be on their toes because they know the other will be on the bench waiting to get on.
"Albert was outstanding and Andy has been all season."
