Alert after masked man's abduction bid

A WARNING has been issued to parents by police after the attempted abduction of a six-year-old girl.

The child was with her sister and another friend near a block of flats in Ordnance Street, Chatham, when a man picked her up and started to carry her away.

He took her down steps leading to a car park but the other two girls kicked him until he released the victim. The would-be abductor then got into a small white van and drove away.

PC Peter Leeming, of Kent Police, is appealing to the public to come forward with any information. He said: "This has been very frightening for the young girl and I would urge anyone with has information to contact Medway police immediately."

The offender is described as a white man, 5ft 6in tall, wearing a black balaclava and a black top and trousers and spoke with a North Eastern accent.

The attempted abduction took place last Wednesday between 5.30 and 6.10pm. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Medway police on 01634 884252.
