Miniature railway locomotives and traction engines will be all steamed up when Canterbury and District Model Engineering Society holds its annual open day on Sunday.
The locomotives and traction engines are miniature examples of those that once graced Britain’s railways or trundled along the roads in times when road haulage was carried out at a much more sedate pace.
The open day is at the society’s miniature railway at Brett’s Quarries, Sturry.
Most of the locomotives have been built by members and are the product of months if not years of painstaking work in back garden workshops.
Chairman of the society Paul Kemp said: “The day is an opportunity for members of the public to come and see what we do.
“Our locomotives seem to appeal to those of all ages from those old enough to be able to remember the days of steam to the very young.”
The open day runs from 11am-4pm and admission and rides are free.
