MITSUBUSHI Motors in the UK is celebrating the success of its 4x4 Shogun range, with four wins out of 11 categories at this year's 4x4 Magazine Awards (previously Off Road & 4WD Magazine). Two awards went to the Pinin. The three-door model won the budget category, beating the likes of the Daihatsu Terios, Frontera Sport and Daewoo Korrando and the five-door won best compact 4x4, beating competition from the Honda CRV, Kia Sportage, Landrover Freelander and Toyota RAV 4.
The Shogun also won two awards. The 3.5 GDI V6 won the best sports 4x4, out-shining competitors such as the Jeep Cherokee and Vauxhall Frontera Sport, while the 3.2 DI-D won best diesel, beating 16 other models for the second year running.
David Sutherland, editor of 4x4 Magazine, said: "Mitsubushi topped no less than four categories in 4x4 of the Year, 2001 thanks to the inherent strength of the Pinin and Shogun ranges. Both are modern designs that in our view provide buyers in their segments with exactly the qualities they demand and donÕt forget that 4x4 buyers are a demanding lot these days."
Mitsubushi have recently added to the Shogun family with the introduction of the 2.0 GDI Shogun Pinin Mirage three-door.
