Following on from my recent reports on the dogs bought at the recent auction sales, the early signs are that we may be looking at some decent greyhounds after the first few have now had their first full race.
I am for once obliged to start with my own little dog that I bought for my better half on sales day who not only graded onto the card earlier than I had anticipated but then went on to win her debut race at 5-1 last Friday night.
After much deliberation my wife decided to name her dog Miss Behave, which I am sure will be a popular name with the public but the dog has certainly surprised us and is the first greyhound from the auction sales to win a race here.
It just shows that you can buy a dog for a relatively small amount and get a winner. She will not be two years old until next month so hopefully there will be more wins to come from her.
Lolos Hurricane has been impressive too date and has been recording some impressive times in his grading on trials.
The dog won his trial on auction day in a fast time of 23.43 seconds over the 380 metres and has subsequently won all three grading on trials in times of 24.07, 23.60 and 23.62 which saw him starting his career here in top grade A1 at the weekend.
He was unlucky in this weekend’s race, being beaten by just a neck after being bumped at the start and again at the third bend. He was beaten by Indian Alfie who is a seasoned campaigner here and on this evidence it will not be long until he wins an A1 race at Crayford.
I had my eye on Mythical Coldwar at the sales and it was pleasing to see her winning her second race here on Saturday night in grade A5.
She had a rough ride in her debut race a week earlier and is still learning as a young pup but she looks a useful type of greyhound who will surely win plenty of races here.
This win by four and a quarter lengths shows what she is capable off.
She is more than likely to creep up the grades over the coming few months and having watched her three races in Ireland before the sales in which she won two and finished second in the other, she looks set to have a good career ahead of her.
Tonetta Jack was also a debut winner at the weekend when winning his S6 race over 540m so it proved to be an encouraging weekend for the sales dogs and I will give you further updates when more appear on the race card.
