I was pleased to see that my selections last week managed to keep up the recent success rate for column followers.

My unluckiest loser from last week, Johnnys Way, went one better as I had hoped and got his just reward when winning on Saturday evening at starting odds of 3-1.

This was further complimented when my newcomer to follow, Hilberry Kat, also landed a nice win returning a price of 5-2.

Tarsna Inca, who I have featured a couple of times recently and mentioned in my piece about Ryves Rock last week, also won at 4-1.

You have to admire greyhounds that manage to work their way up through our grading system.

The idea of course is to find their correct level of ability and whilst in most cases dogs will end up hovering between a couple of grades on the odd occasion an individual will just keep on progressing.

Such has been the case with Evons Kyalli who after just 18 races here has worked her way up from bottom grade A8 to the dizzy heights of A2 over 380 metres.

In simple terms she has met better dogs week after week but has put them all in their place and although she may have levelled off for now, I would not back against her winning an A2 race in the right company.

She was 6-1 in her first race in this grade and you can expect similar prices.

It is always worth keeping an eye on newcomers here trained by Patsy Cusack.

They seem to have a very good winning debut strike rate and Friday evening’s card produced two more decent looking types in Kilahara Robin and Short Stroll who both won well.

In contrast Short Stroll won at the fourth time of asking but impressed me having started in last place when the traps opened.

This has been the dogs weakness to date, as his previous three races reflect, he is simply not giving himself much of a chance starting so slowly.

Having said that he is capable of performing well if given any sort of room to work in and I think that this win will boost his confidence and hopefully see him trapping much quicker.

If both factors now come into play, as I suspect they will, we will get the chance to see how good he really is.
