You will not get a 20-1 quote now on Tictac Tyson winning the Tony Morris Memorial Rose Bowl on Saturday night after he won his semi-final race at the weekend by three and a quarter lengths.
As I stated last week that ante-post price quote was far too big about the dog that holds the track record here over 380 metres.
As I had feared, the favourite to win the event outright Me Buddy was eliminated after missing his break when the traps opened and as indicated last week, he does little unless leading early. Unfortunately, that was the case on this occasion.
So what happens now on Saturday night in the £2,000 final? Crayford have three representatives in Aghadown Donna and Blacknomilk, together with Tyson. That gives us half the field but I believe the chances of one these three winning is far higher than 50% and I am still optimistic of this resulting in a home win for us.
As is usual what has gone before, while relevant, will be outweighed now by the trap draw in working out each greyhound’s chances so here is my reading of the final line-up.
Tictac Tyson will have to be at his best on the night as on the clock his main challenge would appear to come from Ministry Mayhem who won the other semi-final in a time of 23.40 compared to Tyson’s 23.64.
It may well be that Mayhem will cause exactly that as he has trap two in the final and will move toward the middle when exiting the boxes.
That may ruin both his and Droopys Pharaoh’s chances in trap three. Blacknomilk has her favoured six box but will need trouble behind if she is to win.
I can see things playing into the paws of Aghadown Donna who has a plum draw running out of trap one and with Ministry Mayhem moving middle, all she has to do is get out and hold the advantage to the bend.
She should have all the room she needs to take an early advantage. No stamina issues with her and a dog that I have always thought is so deserving of having a big race win on her record.
The Heineken Kent St Leger final worth £2,500 to the winner will be run over 714 metres here on Friday.
The knowledgeable money here will be for Wise Signal from trap two who won both his heat and semi races at odds on starting prices.
