Zigzag Wokabout looked unlucky when beaten by just two lengths in an A5 race at the weekend.
The dog has been in good form recently with three wins and a second in his last five starts so a win at this level is overdue.
Whilst he finds it difficult to win in this grade his race last Saturday night shows that he is getting close having finished well to lose by just two lengths.
He is not the fastest of trappers but his form book shows that he is capable of a better start than shown latest and that may be all that is needed for him to get his just rewards.
The top grade S1 race over 540m went to Fawkham Emperor trained by Barry O’Sullivan.
The greyhound has that certain bit of class but does not seem the easiest of dogs to win with, as his starting price here of 6-1 reflects.
Having said that there will be many knowledgeable pundits who will not have been surprised at his victory, given that the dog has featured in top class Open races on Sky Sports against some of the best stayer’s around.
You could not rule out the possibility of him repeating the feat on his reappearance here, it will be a case of paying your money and taking your chance but when he gets it right he is a very decent animal.
Keep an eye also on Burgess Millar who has only failed to be in the first two on one occasion after seven races here.
The Julie Luckhurst trained youngster has found himself already having had one race in top flight S1 when he gave a very creditable account of himself to finish second.
He lost that race to the aforementioned Fawkham Emperor, so no disgrace in defeat there, and having won an S2 event over the weekend he will now be ready to have another go at beating the best around six bends.
Take note Fawkham Emperor’s win time on Saturday night was 34.05 seconds, in his S1 event whilst Burgess Millar recorded 34.85 in his S2 race.
In racing terms that leaves him some ten lengths to find but be warned that when the pair met in the latter’s only S1 race back on 20 August he lost by just a short head to Emperor. Form reversal next time?
