Black Mix has made an impressive start to her career at the track, with five wins from nine starts.

Her first win came in grade A6 on May 13 and her latest at the weekend in an A3 race, so it may well be the case that her rapid improvement will continue. Having won her last three starts, I think she can go on to land an A2 race, based on the time of 23.60 in her last run.

The winner of the top grade A1 on that card could only manage a 23.80 having enjoyed a trouble free run, so the clock says that she is good enough. Her starting odds at the weekend were 5-1 and you can expect a similar price next time. She could be excellent value for money.

It is always nice to see our established dogs returning to the card after a rest period. One such dog, Planet Queen, had been in decent form before her seasonal break and she looks as good as ever having won her first race back.

She can now expect an upgrading after her four-length runaway win but she has been successful at the next level before and having recorded her fastest ever sectional time of 3.51sec, trap to line, last time out her next opponents may find it difficult to stay with her if she reproduces that sort of early pace. I would prefer to see her starting out of trap three, rather than four, so watch out for her and an anticipated starting price of around the 4-1 mark.

Galtie Ned l won his debut race last Saturday night. The dog joined trainer Gemma Davidson’s kennels having previously had five races at Thurles in Ireland the last two of which he won. There is probably more in reserve and I expect him to run a big race again next time.

The dog won at A5 level and this victory gives a strong form line boost to kennel-mate Centenarys Bond who beat Ned three times during their grading on trials. Having shown good early speed in all of those trials, Bond has subsequently missed his break in both of his two races too date. That can’t continue and he must win once he gets his trapping back in order. He also is racing at A5 level, so the signs look positive.
