There was another good winner for column followers last week after Nanny Hi Hills put in another trap to line victory during last Thursday afternoon’s meeting at odds of 5-2.

That looks to have been excellent value, given the greyhound’s previous form.

Is there yet more to come from him? The answer now depends on whether the racing manager decides to upgrade the dog by more than one grade.

I would suggest that if he reappears at A5 level then there is still more in reserve to win again in that sort of company.

There was a nice winning debut performance from Cape Diamond last Friday night and I can see that the dog has scope for further improvement based on his win time for the grade.

The dog had a dozen races at Tralee in Ireland before joining Crayford trainer Julie Luckhurst’s kennels.

His formbook clearly shows that he is a slow starter away from the traps but runs on strongly and this was the case at the weekend.

After a moderate break in fourth place followed by bumping, he nonetheless managed to take up the lead at halfway and from that point on never looked like being caught as he crossed the line five lengths clear.

With a win time of 23.83 and allowing for the fact that he did not enjoy a trouble-free run, I fancy that we have yet to see the best of the Dixey Price Syndicates latest aquisition.

Cals Lonely came of age at the weekend as the dog won a top grade A1 race here for the first time. I have followed this dog’s progress with interest as one of the greyhounds bought during the auction here at the track last September. The owner is a shrewd judge and his dog started his career here in grade A2, which he clearly found a little difficult.

He was quickly dropped back to grade A3 which he duly won and has figured in the top two grades here ever since.

Excursions to other tracks to compete in Open races have clearly helped his progress, resulting in him now being able to win an A1 here. He should now be more than capable of holding his own against the best at Crayford. Perhaps we may now even see him at Open level here.
