THE driver of a gritter lorry miraculously walked away from his vehicle unharmed after it crashed into the garden of a house and landed on its side.

The truck was carrying four to five tons of salt as it gritted the A227 in the village of Culverstone, near Gravesend, on Wednesday night.

The lorry driver was checked over at the scene by an ambulance crew but not taken to hospital. Another vehicle parked in the driveway of the property was badly damaged.

Residents blamed the crash on the road, which they say is a known accident blackspot.
