IT seems like only yesterday, says Amelia Rose, nee Morgan, but it is actually 62 years since as a teenager she won a flight in a small aircraft from Rochester Airfield after entering a Keg Meg competition in the Kent Messenger.
Mrs Rose, from Chilston Road, Lenham, recalls she was 15 and living with her parents Ena and Jack Morgan in the family home in Douglas Road, Lenham, at the time. She was allowed to take guests with her and took her sisters Nancy, then 14, and Joan, 11.
Nancy is pictured standing to the left of Amelia, (in a headscarf) with Joan standing by the cockpit on the wing.
Mrs Rose said: “It was November 22, 1947. The photo shows three other children who had also won prizes in the competition with the parents they took as their guests. I don’t remember their names. But you can see Kousin Mac in the beret standing on the aircraft wing, with the pilot off to the side.”
Mrs Morgan married her husband Jim in 1949 and they have three daughters.
She said: “A lot has happened since then, although we’ve ended up living back in Lenham.”
