American chain Captain D’s to open first UK restaurant in Kent

An American seafood chain is set to open its first UK location in the county this summer.

Captain D’s is known for its fried fish and platters, and has 535 branches in 23 states across the USA.

But it is now expanding into Europe, with the first restaurant opening in August - right here in Kent.

The chain, based in Nashville, Tennessee, has not yet been revealed where in the county it will be.

But the company hopes to open the first franchise in Kent in August before then expanding into Surrey and Hampshire - having been operating in the States since 1969.

The news comes after Captain D’s signed a deal with CDs Holdings - a real estate investment company - to open 20 new locations across the pond.

Naveed Chattha, operations director of CDs Holdings, said: "We have been looking for the right brand to introduce to the UK market, which is exciting and healthy.

“There is a large fish and chips market in the UK, but no one has tried to apply discipline, standards, and quality to such a level here before.

“With our experience, we feel Captain D's is the right choice."

Hair Parra, senior vice president of international operations and development for Captain D's, added: “This is an exciting time in the growth of our brand.

"Our master franchisees are committed to making a sustainable impact in the UK, and we are committed to working alongside them and offering new opportunities to other entrepreneurs as we expand into new international markets."
