A draw on the last day of the season at Nottingham Forest condemned Gillingham to relegation from the Championship and soon afterwards manager Stan Ternent left. His replacement, Neale Cooper, had a torrid time - culminating in a humiliating FA Cup defeat at Unibond League Burscough (pictured) - and he also left in November. The van driver was killed.
This dramatic picture captured the aftermath of a hot air balloon accident in June at Dunkirk, near Faversham. It was later revealed that the crash, which injured 12 people, was caused by high winds rather than mechanical or equipment faults.
This was the scene in East Malling Village Hall car park in September after Peter Todd, the 53-year-old son of The Dam Busters star Richard Todd, is thought to have committed suicide. A shotgun was found by his side.
Thousands of commuters from Kent were caught up in the horror of the bomb blasts that rocked London in July, killing 52 people and injuring hundreds more.
