Graffiti is usually frowned upon in Whitstable but some was definitely welcomed by visitors to the town over the weekend.

Instead of gaudy spray painted tags, lampposts, bollards and signs were covered with cosy-looking knitted items.

The decoration was part of the Whitstable Biennale, which also included a symphony composed for and performed by ice cream vans and performance artists who mingled with shoppers and sunbathers.

Galleries were set up in the most unlikely locations, including an old container on the beach, pubs and shops.

And one of the most impressive attractions was a boat covered in thousands of mirror tiles which moored just off the town for special radio broadcasts.

The festival continues until Sunday, July 6.
