Older horses held their own against the youngsters at the CCP horse riding show in Eastchurch.

Now into its 28th year, the show went on all day at Chequers Stables on Eastchurch Road last Sunday and takes place twice a year.

Events included showjumping, gymkhana and exhibiting.

In the show events, younger horses were led by hand while older horses were ridden around the course. Judges gave marks for condition, performance and manner.

In the gymkhana, riders had to jump their horses over two poles, with the height of the jump increasing each time. The winning jump was 1.35 metres.

Among the winners were Sara Cummings, 14, who won the novice jumping category on her horse Fizz Bomb, Michael Bird, 18, who won the intermediate event on Bob’s Your Uncle, and Nyomi Hawes, whose horse Diamond Geza came first in the ridden showing category.

The initials CCP used to stand for the last names of the three founders, but as they moved on or got married, the name now stands for 'Can’t Catch Ponies’.

Karen Handebeaux, one of the founders of the show, said: “It was nice to see some of the older horses getting a look in against the youngsters. All the entrants were very good riders.”

The next show is on Sunday, September 14.
