All-electric Leaf updated for 2013

All-electric Leaf updated for 2013

Nissan's all-electric Leaf, the first mass-produced zero emission vehicle, has benefitted from over 100 detail changes and updates to coincide with production beginning at the firm's plant in Sunderland.

Many of the changes have come as a result of direct feedback from customers through forums and the Leaf's telematics system which collects large amounts of data on how the vehicle is used.

Most significantly the Leaf has a new powertrain, which increases the range from 109 miles to 124 and also frees up more boot space, giving 370 litres in total and creating an unobstructed area when the seats are folded.

A new heat pump also reduces the electrical drain to improve the range in hot or cold climates.

Aerodynamics have also been improved to reduce drag, while the suspension has been overhauled for European markets to give a more controlled ride and improved handling.

The Leaf range is now comprised of Visia, Acenta and Tekna models, which as well as giving buyers greater choice also brings the base price to a lower level than before. Final prices are yet to be confirmed but the updated Leaf will reach showrooms this summer.
