The feature race this weekend will be on the Saturday morning card when the final of the Owners Bonus Series A7 race will be run.

As usual it looks like being a close affair after reviewing last week’s three semi-final races from which the first two in each race went through to have the chance of winning the £500 first prize.

In all three of the semis the favourite was beaten into second place so the local bookmakers may well have to adjust their market and another factor which they will have to take into consideration is that the six dogs which qualified ran out of traps three to six, so who will now be drawn in traps one and two in the final?

Puppy Lordsbury York has only had seven career races to date and she won the first semi out of trap five in the fastest time of 23.82 seconds.

This performance was somewhat of a turnaround in her form having been fifth twice and last three times in her previous seven races.

However, this was the first time the dog had led from the traps and on paper she would win the final if repeating given the other two semis winners Kilmead Charm and Santoi Comet also enjoyed clear runs.

They recorded win times of 23.98 and 24.02 seconds respectively. Kilmead Charm is another youngster who has also had only a handful of races, whilst in contrast Santoi Comet is an experienced grader.

The three other finalists are Greenlough Patch, Nunhead Izzy and Ballylaw Mac who all went off as favourites in the semis but found one too good in their races. None of the trio had any real excuses other than they could have trapped out better so we could be in for a close final.

I am of the opinion that the winner on Saturday will have to go under the 24.00 seconds barrier which is not easy for grade A7 dogs.

So if I am right in that assumption the only likely candidates will be Lordsbury York and Kilmead Charm. A deciding factor is that Kilmead has got trap one in the final. She has run out of trap two before so I am hoping she will start quickly and make the most of the inside draw.

Gates open at 10am and the Owners Bonus Final goes off at 11.51am. There are 11 support races so why not come along.
