An end could be in sight to the flooding misery in Halfway after a water company promised to find the cause of the problem.

Southern Water is to carry out a full survey in the area around Holmside Avenue and Western Avenue after the roads were besieged by water again last week.

Kent County Council has also accepted that an urgent investigation is needed.

Norman Bateman, head of KCC’s technical services, said officers would work with Southern Water to find the cause.

Gullies in both Holmside Avenue and Western Avenue are due to be cleansed shortly.

It was hoped that Southern Water may be able to alleviate the problem by upgrading its pumping station in nearby Sunnyfields Drive, but this week the company kept tight-lipped about whether it would splash the cash on the upgrade.

A spokeswoman said: “Following the clean-up operation, and as part of a county-wide flooding review, we are investigating this incident to see if there is anything that can be done to reduce the risk of flooding in the future during extreme weather conditions.”
