Recruiting a new striker remains one of Andy Hessenthaler’s top priorities.

Last week’s transfer deadline for permanent signings passed with no new arrivals at Priestfield, but the Gillingham manager, pictured, hasn’t given up his hunt.

On Wednesday the window for loan signings opens for a month and Hessenthaler will be back on the search for a new face.

"We will try and get someone in upfront," said the Gills boss, who has seen his side go two games without scoring.

"We have been trying for weeks but haven’t been able to do anything. Let’s hope we can bring in a fresh face in that forward area."

The Gills will be hoping to land either a raw recruit from the top tier of English football or a well-established one from the lower ranks.

Asked if a new player would be in before Accrington’s visit to Priestfield next weekend, he said: "I would like to think so."
