Welling striker Andy Pugh praised the professionalism of his team-mates after their 3-1 win at Lewes on Monday.

The Wings sit fifth in Blue Square Bet South after two wins out of two in the new year, and Pugh was delighted that they overcame lowly Lewes.

"We showed good professionalism after the third goal to see the game out," said Pugh.

"That was pleasing as it is something that we need to have in our game."

Pugh (pictured) was also delighted with the way Welling approached the match at Lewes on a difficult pitch.

"We still gave it a good go on that pitch," he added. "They got a goal back before half-time that I didn't think they deserved and that gave the second half a bit of an edge as we should have been out of sight but I was pleased to get my second goal."

After leaving the relative calm of Gillingham in the summer, Pugh has stepped into the firing line at Welling, given the transfer embargo and much-publicised tax problems.

“I’ve really enjoyed it though,” he claimed. “All the trouble that we’ve had has been different to what I am used to but hopefully that is all being sorted out now.

“We’re really tight as a unit and we want to do well for Jamie Day, Barry Ashby and Dean Frost. We’re in this together, in a way that I’ve never been in a squad before, we’ve all got a tight bond now and I’m really enjoying that side of it.”
