IT TOOK 230 eggs, 28 pints of milk, 10 pounds of flour and just a pinch of salt, but one man has tossed his own record aside on Pancake Day.

Angelo Dondi, who runs Angelo’s Delicatessen in Westgate, near Margate, served up nearly 1,000 pancakes this year, easily beating his previous best.

Mr Dondi has been flipping pancakes at his shop for the past 26 years.

He said: “I’ve been doing this for so long now, I’ve definitely got the hang of it. There’s always a great atmosphere. February is such a dull month. We have had nothing to celebrate since Christmas and New Year, and I just do it for a bit of fun.”

Mr Dondi also staged six pancake races, involving around 150 youngsters from the local St Crispin’s and St Saviour’s schools.

The proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to the Cancer Care Appeal at the QEQM Hospital in Margate.
