AN INVESTIGATION is being carried out after fire damaged a former stable block. The derelict Jacksons Stables at Station Road, Westgate, near Margate, caught alight shortly after 6pm on Sunday (May 5).

Police say there were several seats of fire and that the blaze was started deliberately.

Fire crews from Westgate, Margate and the Thanet station at Broadstairs spent several hours tackling the flames which damaged the ground and first floor and roof of the large structure.

A police spokesman said that no neighbouring properties were affected. Anyone with information is asked to telephone Thanet police, 01843 231055.
