Thaw sets in

Kent's snow blanket appears to be melting - with roads and pavements in the county now covered with slush.

Temperatures have been creeping back above zero leaving snow and ice water everywhere.

But forecasters have warned the big thaw after the big freeze may be short-lived - especially in the north of the county.

Kent weather expert Shaun Maltby, who runs kent-weather.co.uk, said: "Temperatures across Kent are just above freezing and will remain so during today.

"But the cloud cover and misty conditions are going to remain also. Temperatures today are 1C to 2C in a very light north east to easterly wind.

"It should remain dry though with no additional rain or snow likely though the odd light snow flurry cannot be ruled out.

"Into tonight, and with the low cloud and light winds it could turn rather foggy leading to freezing fog by tomorrow morning.

"Overnight lows could drop down to -2C to -3C allowing ice to form where a slight thaw has taken place during Tuesday.

"Wednesday does have some question marks over it regarding snow but will be reviewed during Tuesday in time for Wednesday's forecast.

"Currently it looks as though any rain/snow will stay north of the county."
