Well, here we are for the final time this season. It’s been a long season with plenty of ups and downs but I’ve enjoyed talking to you every week.

First of all I have to tell you that I’m not going to be able to tell you about the meeting with the club’s management on Tuesday. All I can say is that we had a meeting and it went OK.

It was a phenomenal last day of Championship cricket last Thursday. Yorkshire came to us on the final morning trying to set up a game.

We both needed to win but they put forward some stupid figures – they wanted to set us 400 to win, which was ludicrous.

We said we’d see how the first hour went and they were going along at about eight an over at the start so it looked like they might get the decent total they were after.

But what a phenomenal hour we had. There was not a great deal in the pitch but then Treddy came on and just ripped through them. He produced some awesome bowling and had a bit of luck along the way too.

It was a fantastic day of cricket and just a shame we ended up losing our Division 1 status.

There was a television in the dining area which was providing information about what was going on elsewhere. Farby was great and told us to just concentrate on winning the game.

I don’t think any one area did the damage to us this season, it happened throughout the season in a few different games.

Most of the games we lost were changed in the matter of an hour or so. At this level, one hour of bad concentration in a four-day match can be the difference between winning and losing and that happened to us three or four times.

It’s been a long season for me but I’ll take time to sit down and look back and make some notes over the coming days. You can always learn in this game.

It promises to be a busy winter too. I’m going to the USA with my partner for a break and I’m also going on a golfing trip to Scotland with some umpires, a cricketing tour to Barbados and that’s before heading out to New Zealand to play their T20 season.

This season has had some standout moments for me. To get off to such a good start and my four hundreds early on, and, of course, getting picked for England Lions.

It was a big thing for me and came as a real surprise.
