Bird flu: poultry farmers taking precautions

EXPERTS from the Medical Research Council (MRC) in the UK are to travel to southeast Asia to boost the global fight against bird flu.

The visit comes after Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, warned a bird flu pandemic could kill around 50,000 people in the UK.

Sir Liam said a deadly outbreak would come when bird flu mutated with human flu but it was unlikely to happen this winter.

Experts from the MRC will visit the region where the virus has claimed some 60 lives.
