Canterbury Crown Court

A man who raped a girl three times and sexually assaulted another has been warned to expect a "substantial" prison sentence.

A jury at Canterbury Crown Court took less than four hours to find Brian Thrale guilty of all 11 charges against him this afternoon.

The 62-year-old, of Marshlands, Dymchurch, indecently assaulted his victim before raping her.

"He said he wanted to show me what adults do when they're older," his victim, who appeared in court to give evidence, said in a police interview played to the jury.

On one occasion Thrale told her: "I don't get this [sex] a lot, so I'm going to get it through you."

On another, he said: "No one's going to do it to you before I do."

Thrale was also found guilty of four offences against a second girl - two of indecent assault, one of sexual activity with a child and another of sexual assault.

He stood emotionless in the dock and looked straight ahead with his head slightly bowed as the jury of eight men and four women returned unanimous verdicts.

Judge Simon James said: "The matters on which the defendant has been convicted are so serious that only a prison sentence can follow.

"Only a sentence of substantial length would be appropriate."

Thrale was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.
