DRIVERS faced more traffic jams today after a water main burst for the second time in two weeks.

Water flooded around a home in London Road, Southborough, after the 250mm (10 inch) main sprang a leak at about 4.30am.

Karen Neal, for South East Water, said customers' water supplies were not affected.

The main previously burst on Tuesday, October 2, near the Harlands Way junction, causing neighbouring homes and businesses to flood.

On that occasion firefighters were called to pump out the properties, about a 1,000 homes lost their water supplies and the main and subsequent road repairs took about three days.

Ms Neal said that engineers were waiting until the rush-hour was over before installing temporary traffic lights and starting the mains repair.

She added: "The traffic lights are likely to be there for three days, because once the main is repaired and reinstated the road needs time to harden."
