A SUPERMARKET butcher and his wife have been enjoying a fantastic festive season after winning more than £100,000 on the Christmas Eve lottery draw.

David Keevil, who works at the Tesco store at Lunsford Park, Leybourne Way, successfully matched five numbers and the bonus ball to scoop £102,935.

Mr Keevil, 55, was enjoying a quiet Christmas Eve with his wife Jillian, watching television at home when he decided to check his numbers on Teletext.

He said: "I thought great, we've won a tenner. Then I saw we had matched four, then five numbers, then the bonus ball came up-I shouted out and woke up Jillian who was asleep in the armchair!"

Mr Keevil added: "The first thing we did was call our daughter Claire, her husband Sean and our two-year-old grandson Kieran.

"I kept the winning ticket in my wallet in my dressing gown pocket and then tried to get some sleep, although I couldn't settle as my mind was spinning."

Mr and Mrs Keevil, who met through work more than 30 years ago and both still work for Tesco, have played the National Lottery since it started in 1994.

They regularly play one line on both Wednesday and Saturday. They always use the same numbers and their choice is based on birth dates and their house number.

Mr Keevil, who lives in Walderslade, admits bursting into tears when he was presented with his cheque and is already planning how to spend the winnings.

"We have lived in our council house for 25 years and we are now in the fortunate position to be able to buy it," he said. "Also on the shopping list is a new PC, plus a brand new Rover 25 - as it has always been my dream to walk into a showroom and drive out with my own new motor."

The winning ticket was purchased from the Tesco store that Mrs Keevil works at in The Brook, Chatham.
