C-diff deaths review completed

Kent Police and the Health and Safety Executive are due to announce today whether a full-scale investigation is to be launched into C-diff deaths at a Kent hospital.
The announcement, which follows a nine-month review of a Healthcare Commission report, is due to be made in Maidstone at 11.30am today.
In October, the Healthcare Commission passed a copy of its report into C-diff cases at the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust to Kent Police and the Health and Safety Executive.
That report revealed that 90 people died between April and September 2006, where C-diff was "definitely" or "probably" the main cause of death.
In total there were 1,176 cases of C-diff at the trust’s three hospitals in the same period.
The Healthcare Commission said the report was passed to the two agencies as a matter of course.
