Call for Ramsgate face-lift

A Ramsgate councillor says parts of the town’s Eastcliff are falling into a state of disrepair and has called on Thanet District Council to give the area a facelift ahead of the summer season.
Cllr David Green is concerned that benches are being allowed to fall apart, walls to crumble and parts of the cliff top to become overgrown with weeds.
Cllr Green said: “I am absolutely shocked at the state of the area, the lack of maintenance and just how derelict it looks this summer. It wouldn’t require a huge amount of money, but just regular maintenance.”
Cllr Green, who is a founder member of the Eastcliff Residents Association, said he understood why money was being spent on the regeneration of Margate, but said this should not come at the expense of Ramsgate.
Thanet District Council rejected any claims it was neglecting the maintenance of Ramsgate, where the Main Sands last week won the coveted Blue Flag award for the first time since 2004.
Council leader Sandy Ezekiel said: “Anyone who says we prefer to spend money on Margate than on any other part of the Isle is talking nonsense.
“If these concerns were reported to the relevant department several months ago, they could probably have already been solved.”
