Maritime Hospital

Medway's new cancer care unit is finally a reality after
contractors handed over the keys to the building.
Staff are now busy putting the final touches to the centre at
Gillingham's Medway Maritime Hospital ready for its first intake of
patients at the start of next month.
The unit means cancer patients in Medway and Swale will be able
to receive their chemotherapy close to home. Before it was built,
they had to travel to hospitals further afield for treatment, such
as Maidstone and London.
Existing haematology patients will be treated in a bright,
purpose-built ward.
Macmillan fund-raisers and patients were given a sneak preview
of the facility on Tuesday.
