Dover carnival procession came to a sudden halt last night when
one of the floats made an unscheduled stop in the town’s Market
Square.
On board the float were staff from the Dover Marina and Ramada
hotels, including chef Karel Barus.
And alongside the float when they stopped was his girlfriend
Carolina Simunkova.
Karel quickly jumped down from the float, brought Carolina
forward from the crowd, went down on one knee and proposed to her
as his colleagues on the float played some romantic music.
Carolina said “yes” and Karel slipped the ring, which he had
been hiding on the float, on to her finger.
The spectators, who had been equally unaware of what was going
to happen, cheered as they shared an engagement kiss.
And then Karel jumped back onto the float and the procession got
under way again.
Karel and Carolina are both from the Czech Republic, and met in
Prague four years ago. Now they are planning their wedding.
