Charlie Lee accepted some of the blame for Gillingham’s second-half collapse at Rotherham on Saturday.

The Gills midfielder knew lessons needed to be learned after a one-goal deficit quickly turned into a big defeat.

"We have to learn from our mistakes," he said. "We went 1-0 down and maybe then went a bit gung-ho.

"Maybe I was gambling a bit too much and we got exposed in midfield. Maybe we should have been more disciplined, including myself and Monty (Lewis Montrose), to have stayed in there and stopped them from playing.

"We gambled and it was a mistake, and hopefully we will bounce back."

The Gills had looked in control during the first 45 minutes but then a 53rd-minute Rotherham goal saw all of their good work undone.

Lee, who made a summer move to the Gills from Peterborough, believes that the squad will bounce back quickly from Saturday’s defeat.

He said: "As a team we are gutted but we know that if we keep doing the right things we will get there.

"Next week’s game against Shrewsbury will be a tough test but a good game to have. I wouldn’t want to play us after our performance on Saturday. They are going to get the bounce back from that. I am confident that with the boys we have got we can get a result."
