Nicky Bailey celebrates Charlton's opening goal
Charlton 4 Norwich 2
Charlton rounded off their miserable season in style with a 4-2 win over Norwich which confirmed the Canaries will join them in League 1 next season.
Deon Burton scored a hat-trick for the Addicks - his first for the club and only the second of a career which has spanned more than 400 games.
Nicky Bailey headed the home side into the lead after just nine minutes with an excellent header, from Lloyd Sam’s cross, past Andy Marshall in the City goal.
Academy prospect Chris Solly came on to replace Darren Ward just five minutes later for his first Charlton appearance.
The lead was doubled when Burton struck after 25 minutes and it was 3-0 within five minutes, Burton firing into the bottom corner from Bailey’s pass.
Alan Lee pulled one back for the Canaries in the fifth minute of first-half injury time, heading in from close range after Simon Lappin’s corner.
Burton completed his hat-trick in the 51st minute, pouncing in the six-yard box to convert another Sam cross, thus completing his first treble since he scored three for Rotherham against Blackpool in 2005/06.
Zheng Zhi brought down Alan Lee outside the box after 61 minutes and Sammy Clingan stepped-up to fire the free-kick into the bottom corner.
Scott Wagstaff replaced Zheng with 20 minutes remaining and soon after Kelly Youga and Jonjo Shelvey received cautions.
Tamer Tuna replaced Sam with 10 minutes left but there were no more goals as Charlton wrapped-up only their eighth league win of the season, and joint-biggest, alongside the 4-2 defeat of Reading in August.
