Ever wanted to move to a more affluent area but didn’t believe you could afford it?
We’ve rounded up the streets with the cheapest homes in each of the most expensive towns in the county – and the prices might surprise you.
Previously, KentOnline compared the most expensive streets in every Kent postcode.
Some residential roads had an average property price of more than £4 million, according to analysis of HM Land Registry data by Varbes.
A typical home in a Kent town is now worth £356,000.
But we’ve used data from Varbes and Mouseprice to round up the cheapest streets in the most expensive towns to live.
To find out where your area stands in the rankings, see our list below…
Sevenoaks
It may be no surprise to some that this town is at the top of the list when it comes to expensive homes.
Sevenoaks has previously been recognised as one of the best places to live in the south east.
A typical home here costs £630,000 – more than twice the national average (£290,000).
It was praised for its "excellent schools and a rapid train journey into London" by The Sunday Times newspaper.
But the cheapest street is revealed to be Eden Road in Dunton Green, which has properties priced at a much more affordable £104,000.
Berwick Way and London Road also come in at around £168,000 and £225,000, respectively.
Cranbrook
Known as the “Capital of the Weald”, Cranbrook is a scenic area with many buildings dating back to the 15th century.
An average home here would cost around £529,000.
According to Mouseprice, the market has been rising over the last five years, indicating it “could be an excellent investment if the market holds.”
Just a 10-minute walk from Cranbrook High Street is Rectory Fields, with homes valued at £234,167.
You will have to travel four miles down the road to discover the cheapest street – which is actually in the village of Hawkhurst.
Properties in Woodbury Road are priced at just £170,000.
Longfield
You could bag a home in Longfield for less than £200,000 if you look in the right places.
The cheapest road is Brambledown, with some homes going for around £160,000.
Properties in Ayelands are priced at £230,000 – many are semi-detached, but on the slightly smaller size.
Elsewhere in the area, the average property could set you back a staggering £521,000.
West Malling
Just over an hour from central London and around 20 minutes to Maidstone, the market town of West Malling is a thriving community.
Here you have a 52-acre country park steeped in history on your doorstep, as well as plenty of independent businesses to visit along the high street.
Homes fetch an average price of £481,156 – 40% higher than the national average.
But is it possible to live here on a lower budget?
The cheapest streets are Police Station Road for £165,000 and Redbank in Leybourne, priced at £305,500.
Tonbridge
Ranked the fifth most expensive place to live in the county is Tonbridge, where the average property price is £443,857.
Homes along the cheapest street of Ellis Close in Five Oak Green are priced at £312,000.
However, this is more than £20k above the national average.
The road is also more than four miles away from the main town centre and is in fact is closer to Paddock Wood.
Edenbridge
In the heart of the Eden Valley, between the High Weald and the North Downs, lies Edenbridge.
It has been recorded that the Romans passed through on the road, travelling from London to Lewes, which first crossed the river there.
The town was also known for its tannery until it closed in the 1970s.
Properties in the cheapest street, called Albion Way, will go for around £345,250.
It looks to be a prime location – just minutes away from the town’s train station and the historic straight Roman road.
Tunbridge Wells
We have previously reported on how some properties in the royal town have gone for an eye-watering £5.2 million.
Half of the homes in the area of The Midway sit at around £2 million.
If you want to find some of the cheapest streets, head to The Goodwins and Upper Grosvenor Road.
You might be able to get your foot on the property ladder for £115,000 and £137,500 respectively.
However, it looks to be like more flats and apartments are available along these streets.
Whitstable
Head north of Canterbury and you will find this glorious seaside town.
Whitstable’s main claim to fame is its oysters, which are celebrated every year at a festival dedicated to the delicacy.
Homes along the seafront, complete with stunning views, can be valued in the millions.
A property just a stone’s throw from the bay was recently put on the market for £1m.
It is one of the most expensive two-bedroom houses in the county.
Further away from the water is Olympia Way – the town’s cheapest street – with properties priced at £160,000, however.
